. Northern France: second quarter of the fifteenth century. 7 3/8 x 4 3/4 inches (185 x 125 mm); written in dark brown ink in a batarde script. The recto (28 lines, including one blank) bears a square miniature within an architectural border (43 mm square in total) of St. Mark writing in a book on his lap, watched with fascination by a lion (a friendly beast, looking much like a monkey), the text surrounded on three sides by a border of acanthus, strawberries, violas, etc. The verso has a single column border. Very minor soiling.
