First edition, first issue (Franklin Press on copyright page), in BAL's first binding state (the uppermost central rosette stamped on spine 1/8" below the rules under the author's name, and the rear endpaper and pastedown integral to the text). Dark green cloth, front cover stamped in gold and black, spine gilt lettered. 8 1/4 x 6 3/8 inches (21 x 16 cm); 411 pp., 192 illustrations. Very light rubbing but overall bright, spine ends worn, corners a tad rubbed, but overall a very good copy in attractive condition.
Twain's comic tale of the pauper who changes places with Prince Edward of England, the son of Henry VIII. BAL 3402.
