Modern three-quarters black morocco (retaining the original spine), cloth sides, 16 x 12 inches (41 x 30 cm); [12], xii, 191 [1] pp., with engraved half-title, frontispiece, and 52 engraved plates by Dore, each with tissue. Light binding wear, occasional very minor pale foxing, an attractive copy.
This work is with justice considered Dore's finest graphic accomplishment, and remains a powerful social document, akin to Mayhew's vision of the London poor.
