. Washington, D.C.: 5 April 1861. Engraved document accomplished in manuscript, signed by Lincoln as President and countersigned by Caleb Blood Smith as Secretary of the Interior, with embossed seal. 14 3/4 x 20 inches (38 x 51.5 cm); framed. Usual folds with a few splits at edges, faint spotting.
This document features a dark Lincoln signature from just days before the first shots were fired at Fort Sumter. Samuel W. Brown served as Receiver of Public Money in the U.S. Land Office of Vancouver, Washington Territory for twenty-one years and was the first president of the Vancouver and Yakima Railroad.
