, circa 1861-65, on an irregular slip of paper from a partly printed document on which the left side has been signed in ink "Abraham Lincoln" above the printed words "THE PRESIDENT", this above a printed line of text which has been trimmed, on the right side the printed words "Secretary of State" has been struck through in ink and below has been signed "William H. Seward Secretary of State". The slip 1 5/8 x 7 3/8 inches (4.2 x 20 cm); framed with a portrait. Show-through of former mounting, toned from framing, pin hole to right corner, the slip with a square excised above Seward's writing.
