Partly printed document on vellum accomplished in manuscript and signed by Roosevelt as President and Elihu Root as Secretary of War, the document with two finely engraved vignettes and an affixed blue seal. The document appointing Nathan Shelton First Lieutenant in the Artillery Corps. 18 1/4 x 15 inches (46.5 x 38 cm). The edges folded over a board and affixed but the document itself not flush mounted, this board affixed to a secondary support board, the Roosevelt signature weak at its end, some fading to manuscript portions of text and one small abraded area, a docketing signature in upper margin.
