Brown morocco gilt, the arms in a central compartment, surrounded by an extremely elaborate interlaced design, the various compartments with semes, volutes, leafwork and rolls, fitted with brass bosses and cornerpieces. 23 x 16 1/2 inches (59 x 42 cm); a remboîtage, the contents now blank sheets added for bulk. Rebacked (original spine not retained, various evidences of wear, but in all in sound condition.
A remarkably elaborate binding for a presently unidentified member of the Medici family, probably late 16th-early 17th century, obviously originally on a huge and elaborate book or manuscript.
