[MERCANTILE LAW] MALYNES, GERARD. Consvetudo, vel, lex mercatoria, or, The antient law-merchant, diuided into three parts: according...
. London: Printed by Adam Islip for Nicolas Bourne, 1636. Later issue (of a very variable work), lacking the added engraved cancel title and with the general title adjusted to reflect the omission of The merchants mirrour. Modern calf to style, spine gilt. 13 x 8 1/2 inches (33 x 22 cm); [10], 333, [1] pp. (lacking initial and final blank), pagination errors throughout but text continuous collating A^(5) of 6 [-A1 blank, A2, the title, disjunct] B-Vv^(4) [lacking Vv4, blank]. Title frayed at foot (not affecting text) and laid down, a pale marginal stain over the first half of the book, a few rust-spots and other small stains, lacking the blanks as noted. The head of the title bears an early ownership mark.
Malynes devotes a substantial section of his work to the law of the sea, as well as curious discursions on diamonds and pearls, mining etc. The collation of this work matches that of ESTC S123345, other than for the final blank. STC (2nd ed.), 17224.5; Goldsmiths' 513; Kress 390.
