Lot Details

Lot 67
[TENNESSEE] Decisions of the Supreme Court of Errors and Appeals for the State of Tennessee on the Statute of Seven Years Posse...
. Nashville: M. & J. Norvell, 1816. First edition. Half leather, cloth sides. 8 1/4 x 5 inches (21 x 12.5 cm); [2], 44 pp. Joints cracked, spine defective, Bar Association stamp on title, some ink underlining at rear. The title with the name of Patrick Darby (presumably the Tennessee land speculator of that name), who may also have been responsible for the underlining.
The Darby association noted above is fascinating, as the Tennessee Supreme Court had passed a number of opinions which tended to cast doubt on the land holdings of many in the State, naturally a matter of considerable interest to a speculator. HRS Tennessee records just the Harvard Law and Library of Congress copies of this interesting legal tract, as does Shaw and Shoemaker 39065. WorldCat notes only the Harvard copy.
