Cambridge: University Press, 1913. First edition. Publisher's green cloth, gilt-lettered spine. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (21.5 x 13.5 cm); vii, [1], 699 pp.; in-text illustrations and charts, half-title. Extremities bumped, light foxing to endpapers.
Lord Rutherford was an important figure in the vanguard of the study of nuclear physics. He discovered the structure of the atom and was the first scientist to split the atom; this book quite possibly contains the first mention of the word "nucleus" in reference to the center of the atom. Rutherford's last great work.
