Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1893. First edition. Publisher's burgundy cloth, gilt-lettered spine. 8 5/8 x 5 3/8 inches; xvi, 578, [2] pp.; in-text diagrams and illustrations, publisher's advertisements. Extremities bumped, generally a bit rubbed and scuffed, ownership inscription to title page.
Subtitle states "Intended as a sequel to Professor Clerk-Maxwell's Treatise on Electricity and Magnetism," and indeed this book is often referred to as the "third volume of Maxwell." Thomson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1906 for his discovery of the electron (1897) and his experiments on the conduction of electricity by gases. Norman 2:2075; PMM 386.
