Pair of French Black Lacquer, Part-Gilt and Part-Japanned Bedside Cabinets
19th Century
Each rectangular top with flaps above two drawers and a hinged cupboard door opening downward to a marble-lined interior, raised on tapering square legs ending in casters; decorated allover with chinoiserie figures in pavilioned landscapes; the bottom of one cabinet with black-stencilled number 630, drawer locks stamped HUBY FILS/SERRURIER/PARIS. Height 27 inches (68.6 cm), width 14 inches (35.6 cm), width with flaps extended 32 1/2 inches (82.6 cm), depth 16 inches (40.8 cm).
