Contemporary half green morocco, the spine in six gilt-ruled compartments separated by five raised bands, gilt-lettered in one. 8 3/8 x 5 1/4 inches; xvi, 499 pp.; folding engraved frontispiece, folding map, folding geological section, plates, vignette title page, half-title. Spine lightly sunned, cloth a bit rubbed, short tear to map near mount (not affecting image) and lightly foxing to its verso, else fine.
"This journey was undertaken in 1871, and the account of its botany and geology is one of the most important works that has been written on the country" (Playfair). Neate H109; Perret 2277 ("uncommon"); Playfair 1275.
