Lot 245
MACQUEEN, PETER In Wildest Africa. The Record of a hunting and exploration trip through Uganda, Victoria Nyanza, the Kilimanjaro Reg...
Boston: L. C. Page & Company, 1909. First edition. Publisher's pictorial cloth gilt in dust jacket. 7 7/8 x 5 1/2 inches; xiii, 402 pp.; folding map, frontispiece and plates after photographs. Jacket toned (particularly at spine) with losses to spine ends and a few marginal tears, some pale staining to cloth, minor occasional foxing.
Scarce in jacket. "The subtitle and attractive pictorial cloth binding promises plenty of big game hunting adventure. Not so! MacQueen provides historical background to his travels in East Africa, and is quite adept at describing the countryside. However, there is only one chapter on sport, and that gives the reader a rather pedestrian idea of what game to expect. What little hunting actually takes place is provided in a few paragraphs by the author's companion, Peter Dutkewitch. The photographs, however, are exceptionally good" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 177.
