New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1914. First American edition, inscribed by the author. Publisher's pictorial cloth. 7 7/8 x 5 1/4 inches; x, [1], 301 pp.; frontispiece, plates, half-title. Spine lettering rubbed away, spine ends lightly bumped, else fine.
Inscribed by the author to Frederick J. Davis. "Loring was one of three field naturalist [sic] who accompanied Teddy Roosevelt on his famous safari to East Africa. In the first half of this work, he relates episodes of hunting elephant, lion, hippopotamus and other game while with the ex-president, as well as hunting at night and being chased by an ostrich. The remaining portion of the text contains adventures as told to Loring by other sportsmen and explorers" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 170.
