"A former officer in the King's African Rifles, the author relates his big game hunting and military adventures in various locales in South Africa, North-Eastern Rhodesia and Uganda. In the area near the Zambesi, Shorthose and his brother officers bagged lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, sable and assorted other game. In Uganda, he successfully collected elephant and buffalo. In one hair raising episode, while hunting elephant near the Albert Nyanza, Shorthose was severely mauled by an elephant he had wounded, barely escaping with his life. His military adventures include fighting the Germans in East Africa during World War I and the Mad Mullah in Somaliland" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 255.
