[Los Angeles]: Privately printed by the author at California Graphic Press, 1931. First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author. Publisher's dark green paper-covered boards, silvered. 9 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches; 219 pp.; half-title, photographic frontispiece and plates. Hinges strengthened, extremities a bit worn, evenly toned throughout.
This copy inscribed by the author: "To Miss Connelly / I don't care if I did promise / to marry you - I insist! / [signed] W. S. Van Dyke / L.A. Oct. 1, '33".
"An interesting work detailing the adventures around the filming of Trader Horn near Lake Victoria. There are episodes of hunting buffalo, lion and rhinoceros with professional hunter W. V. D. Dickinson. The stars of the film, Harry Carey, Edwina Booth and Duncan Rinaldo, appear in one staged photograph after having driven off a lion feeding on the carcass of a topi" (Czech).
