[BROCK, O. CARLYLE] The Brock Safari 1950 and the Brock Shakari 1952.
[Erie, PA: Advance Printing & Litho Co., circa 1953]. First edition, signed by the author. Original pictorial wrappers. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; [24] pp. (unpaginated); illustrated after photographs. Wrappers toned with a few short tears and minor losses to extremities, backstrip split, occasional pale foxing.
Photographs depict Sanitary Dairy owner O. Carlyle Brock's safari in Kenya and Somalia after buffalo, lion, kudu, and antelope, as well as a tiger hunt in India. The text indicates that 7,500 feet of Kodachrome movie film was shot over the course of the trip. Brock's African safari is perhaps most notable for his attempt to deduct the cost of the trip, resulting in the landmark case Sanitary Dairy, Inc. v. Commissioner, which prompted stricter guidelines for the deductibility of travel expenses. Czech, Africa, p. 35.
