Louis XV Amaranth Parquetry and Ormolu-Mounted Secretaire
Stamped MIGEON
Mid-18th century
The three-quarter galleried rectangular top with two quarter-veneered panels above an undulating case fitted with a secretaire drawer opening to a hinged flap and a polished writing surface and drawers, over a kneehole recess flanked by short drawers and raised on cabriole legs ending in ormolu sabots. Height 33 1/2 inches (85.1 cm), width 39 inches (99.1 cm), depth 16 1/4 inches (41.2 cm).

Pierre IV Migeon (1696-1758) supplied furniture to the Court and an important circle of aristocratic patrons. His work is especially known for its simple and elegant serpentine forms and fine use of veneers. He was also one of the first Parisian makers to work in mahogany.
