Pair of Regency Inlaid Mahogany, Ebony and Part-Ebonized Serving Tables
Attributed to George Bullock, circa 1815
Each with anthemion-inlaid pedimented three-quarter gallery flanked by acroteria, the breakfronted top with canted corners above a scroll-carved frieze flanked by mahogany-lined drawers, raised on ring-turned and fluted tapering legs. Height 45 1/2 inches (115.7 cm), width 81 1/4 inches (206.4 cm), depth 26 1/4 inches (66.7 cm).
The pattern of this table derives from a design by George Bullock recorded in the Wilkinson Tracings in City Museums and Art Gallery, Birmingham (M.3.74, f. 22). The marquetry patterns and applied scrolls and roundels are all characteristic of Bullock's documented work. A sideboard of related form attributed to Bullock was sold, Christie's, London, The Collection of Will Fisher: Founder of Jamb, February 2, 2012, lot 300.
