Lot Details

Lot 111
[ILLINOIS] THURSON, JOHN H. Reminiscences, Sporting and Otherwise, of Early Days in Rockford, Ill.
Rockford: Press of the Daily Republican, 1891. First edition with a presentation inscription from Thurston to his son James Warren Thurston dated 25 December 1891 to the front blank. Gilt stamped cloth. Frontispiece portrait and one other to the first text leaf, 117 pp. Endpapers toned along extremities and with a few marginal chips and short tears touching the last letters in two lines of the inscription, old dampstain to edge, hinges strengthened.
An uncommon history devoted to Rockford in 1830s and 40s, with much on Chicago. We trace no copies at auction and this is likely the most recent copy listed in Rare Book Hub (1985), with a presentation inscription to the author's son. Howes T252.
