First American edition, this copy with an autograph letter signed from Stanley dated January 31, 1885 to a Dr. Sheldon tipped-in, together with interesting notes about the gift of this copy and the Stanley letter. Bindings rebacked retaining original spines, some wear, minor creases to one margin of the letter at the gutter margin.
