Lot 43
Victorian Sterling Silver Chamberstick
Creswick & Co., Sheffield, 1843
Shaped circular, the scroll handle with conical snuffer, with baluster-form candle holder. Diameter 6 inches, total approximately 9 ounces.

In a world without electricity chambersticks were vital instruments after sunset. Chambersticks like this led the way through darkened halls and rooms. Wax candles were incredibly expensive and most families would have spent the evening in a much darker world than we are used to today.
