[MOUNTAINEERING] Appalachia. The Journal of the Appalachian Mountain Club. Vol. I 1876-1878--[Vol. XVI 1924-1926].
17 volumes (I-16 plus the Index volume), three-quarters red morocco, marbled sides. 9 1/4 x 5 5/8 inches (23.5 x 15 cm); volumes with maps, charts and many plates. Light wear and soiling, generally an attractive set. Apparently complete, but sold as a periodical, not subject to return. Each volume bears the bookplate of the mountaineer and educator Charles Ernest Fay, a founder of the AMC and the president of the organization in 1878, 1881, 1893, and 1905.
An exceptional association copy of this important work, quite scarce in an extended run such as the present. Each volume has the original parts wrappers bound in at the rear. Volume I contains Fay's 1879 address as president of the Club. The work contains many important accounts of ascents.
