Lot 96
[SPAIN] ISABELLA I of Castile, Queen of Spain. Document signed "Yo la Reyna".
Dated July 20, 1483, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, the body written in Spanish in a fine secretarial hand, brown ink on paper with a watermark of a glove and six-pointed star. Single leaf, two pages, 8 1/4 x 11 3/4 inches (21 x 29.5 cm), page one 18 lines, an order from the Queen Don Inigo de Tovar and his wife, Dona Maria, instructing them to demolish a fortress they owned at Balmazan, the verso with traces of a seal, countersigned by numerous officials including her secretary, Fernando Alvares de Toledo. Housed in an old purple morocco folder. Traces of old folds, tipped into a later paper folder.

An interesting document, signed by Isabella I, who sponsored Columbus's voyage to the New World (after he had been turned down by the kings of Portugal, France, and England).
