George II Gilt-Gesso Pier Mirror
Circa 1735
The beveled mirror plate within a frame surmounted by a plumed and shell-carved cresting with foliage and scrolls on a punched ground, flanked by masks in profile with vines, the pierced apron centered by carved shell and flanked by outset scroll-carved corners. Height 61 inches (154.9 cm), width 34 inches (86.4 cm).

Previous restorations, losses to gesso and now with later gessoing in areas and also with resultant later gilding, mirror plate old and probalaby original, oxidation, crystalization and losses to silvering of plate, bottom left to center edge with chips to plate, repaired breaks to plums of cresting and foliage issuing from mouths of side masks, penciled inscription to top of backboard, old marks and scratches, chips and losses to gilding.
