Additional Notes & Condition Report
appears to be in generally good condition; there is a small narrow brass strip band that is now missing from the underside of the cover at the rear (parallel with the long hinge); there are two tiny (pinhead-size) holes on the cover, presumably due to the loss of two tiny pins that would have been there to help secure the brass cladding to the wood core below, not of great consequence; there are a few other exposed pinholes located elsewhere, again, not of any great consequence; all of the glass 'jewels' appear to be present; one of the four outer red colored glass stones on the cover is distinctly more pink in color tone than the other three and may be a later replacement (the other three stones are dark red in color), however, the pink colored stone appears to be consistent with the other pink colored stones located on the side of the box; the interior of the box appears to be clean, i.e, not stained or soiled, etc.; the patina is age-appropriate on all of the sides and top, i.e., warm and dark brown, however, the underside is a lighter color, perhaps from being less exposed to air and humidity; there is a faint pencil inscription visible on the top flat edge of the body when the cover is opened, possibly "Mary"
