Both New York: Simon and Schuster, 1954. Stated first printings. Each about 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; 309 [1]. The review copy using the dust jacket as a wrapper, with review card laid-in, housed in folding cloth case; the first edition publisher's cloth, in original dust jacket with price present. Both with ink ownership signature or inscription. The review copy with some wear to jacket extremities; the jacket on the hardcover with some wear to extremities and a faint horizontal line to the rear panel.

The Blackboard Jungle regards an ex-Navy officer turned teacher at a vocational school who deals with juvenile crime in the New York City public school system. The novel was the basis for the 1955 Sidney Poitier film.
