Chicago: The Lakeside Press, 1930. First Kent edition, one of 1000 copies. Three volumes. Publisher's original black beveled cloth, the covers and spines lettered and stamped in silver, lacks the aluminum slipcase. 11 1/8 x 8 1/2 inches; with 280 full and partial page illustrations after Kent, an unopened copy after about 50 pages in volume I. The spines lightly faded and soiled and with old library labels removed at the foot of each, without slipcase as noted, minor spot of dampstain to the margin of preliminaries in volume II, the endpapers with the small ink stamps of the Ligonier Valley Library, pockets removed from rear endpapers and small ink numbers to copyright leaves, with the booklabel of William Safire, this offset to the free endpaper opposite and with small paper remnants affixed to the label itself.
The finest illustrated edition of Moby Dick, with sublime artwork by Rockwell Kent.
