Publisher's orange/brown cloth, the covers stamped in blind, the spines gilt lettered, with the label of Edmonds & Remnant, slipcase. 8 x 5 inches; vi, [2], 361 pp.; vi, [2], 319; vi, [2], 313, 16 pp. ads at end. Volume I with the text block split at mid-volume, volume II shaken and the binding detaching from text block, stains at hinges and inner margin from binding adhesive, a few spots, ink ownership signatures to each front free endpaper.

First edition, this the issue without the ad leaf in volume I and with the 16 page publisher's catalogue at end of volume III. The blank found at end of volume I in some copies is not present here.
