Paris: Ambrose Vollard, 1939 [but dated 1942 on colophon]. Number 94 of 205 copies on Hollande. Finely bound by Georges Crette in full midnight blue morocco gilt, the covers tooled with stars in gilt and enamel dots in blind (which catch light giving a luminous effect), blue watered silk endpapers, the original wrappers bound-in, all edges gilt, in the original chemise and slipcase. 14 3/4 x 10 10 3/4 inches; illustrated by Maurice Denis with 13 full page color lithographs and other color and plain lithographs in the text. A very attractive binding in fine condition with only a few very minor scuffs to corners, the interior lining of the chemise deteriorated.

A beautifully bound copy of this well-illustrated work, one of two books illustrated with lithographs by Maurice Denis. This copy sold as part of the collection formed by Sir Frances Rose, Bart, London at Parke-Bernet, 26 January 1954.
