[FINE BINDING] ROIZE, H. REY. Le Breviaire d'Amour.
Paris: Georges Petit, 1897. Illustrated by Lucius Rossi. Number one of ten copies on Japan with an original watercolor signed by Rossi on the half-title and a signed engraving of the author. Sumptuously bound in full ultramarine levant morocco gilt by Canape, the covers tooled in gilt, the spine tooled and lettered in gilt with raised bands, gilt turn-ins, watered silk and marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, the original wrappers bound-in, slipcase. 13 1/2 x 10 inches; 294 pp., with full page and in-text plates, all finely colored by hand. The spine darkened and some rubbing to raised bands, short splits to joints at foot of spine. The volume originally with a separately bound suite of plates which is no longer present.
A fine presentation of the first copy of this deluxe edition, with an original signed watercolor by Rossi, the autograph of the author, and the plates printed on a fine Japan and colored by hand. This copy sold as part of the Collection of Mrs. Henry Walters, Parke-Bernet, 24 April 1941, lot 1051.
