Minton Renaissance Style Palissy Ware Majolica Oval Fecundity Dish
Circa 1858-60
Unmarked, painted by Thomas Allen, original retailer's paper label for John Mortlock, 204 Oxford Street, London
The center painted with the Triumph of Galatea, being carried across the water by two dolphins, attended by trumpeting tritons and two putti, the recessed border molded in relief with recumbent images of Neptune, Ceres, Juno and Mercury. Width 15 inches.

appears to be in generally good condition; there is a very small nick to the glaze in one of the wells (located at the 3 o'clock position); there is a small piece of raised frit (particle inclusion) at the surface along the rim edge, located at the 1 o'clock position; there are a few scratch marks to the glaze, including two adjacent short scratches, located at the top center area of the pink billowing scarf, and there are light superficial scratches elsewhere, including on the underside; there are some scattered very tiny glaze bubbles, mainly on the underside, in the making, not of any consequence; there is some crazing to the glaze; there are four holes for hanging, located on the foot rim; there are a few inconsequential small nicks to the bottom rim edge of the foot rim, some of which appear to have been touched up with paint; examined under black light
