Lot 134
VONNEGUT, KURT Signed self portrait.
A black ink on watermarked paper drawing depicting Vonnegut in profile smoking, signed at center and with his signature asterisk motif, below the image Vonnegut has printed his name and added "Very bad!" with an arrow pointing to his cigarette. 11 x 8 1/2 inches (28 x 22 cm); framed. Very light handling crease, small smudge near the eye.

A playful, original caricature by Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007), author of Slaughterhouse-Five and Breakfast of Champions among many others. Vonnegut frequently depicted himself in this manner and inscribed books with the same profile. One was featured on the cover his 2005 essay collection A Man Without a Country: A Memoir of Life in George W Bush's America.
The present example was a gift of the author.
