[ARCTIC] STEFANSSON, VILHJALMUR. Five typed letters signed to Carolyn Ward, 1933-48.
New York: 8 August 1933; 12 June 1935; 14 April 1943; 19 August 1948; 27 September 1948. Five typed letters signed by Stefansson on his various "Morton Street, New York" stationery, each addressed to Miss Carolyn Ward of Newark, N.J. 11 x 8 1/4 inches (28 x 21 cm). Lightly toned, one with rust mark from a paper clip, the last with pencil markings and a small tape repair; Together with an inscribed copy of Adventures in Diet, 1936, original wrappers, inscribed to Carolyn Ward "from her associate in certain bookish studies." Minor handling wear; And the typescript of an interview with Stefansson titled "What is there left to explore?" The interview with Thorstina Jackson Walters, 12 typed pages, toned.

In these letters from explorer Vilhjamnur Stefansson, he corresponds with his collaborator on several articles and contributor to the Encyclopedia Arctica, scholar Carolyn Ward. The letters refer to a bibliography Ward is compiling, a request for additional copies of an article on the Cheyne balloon attempts, the final a longer letter regarding pioneer polar aviator Bernt Belchen. This group sold Bonhams, 22 October 2007, lot 2029. The lot 7 items.
