Attractively rebound in modern green morocco backed cloth. 8 1/4 x 5 inches (21 x 13 cm); folding map, plates after photographs, 312 pp. Perforated library stamp to title, spotting throughout; together with BURN MURDOCH, WILLIAM GORDON. From Edinburgh to the Antarctic. An Artist's Notes and Sketches during the Dundee Antarctic Expedition of 1892-93. London and New York: Longmans, Green & Co., 1894. Well bound in modern green morocco backed marbled boards. 8 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches (22.5 x 14 cm); [x], 364 pp.; folding map, plates. Scattered foxing and soiling to text.

The first work is a scarce narrative of Scott's expedition to the South Pole, published before Scott's own account, somewhat to his chagrin. Spence 67. Also included in the lot is a work on the Hollow Earth theory by William Reed, The Phantom of the Poles.
