Lot Details

Lot 19
[ARCTIC] LAMBERT, GUSTAVE. L'Expédition au Pôle Nord.
Paris: Au Siège de la Société de Géographie, 1868. Publisher's printed paper wrapper. 9 x 5 3/4 inches (22.5 x 14.5 cm). 134 pp., color-printed folding map. Spotting and wear to wrappers, contents lightly spotted and toned, largely unopened.

Gustave Lambert's proposal for his unrealized expedition to the North Pole. Despite having received over half the funding needed for the voyage, the project was disrupted in 1870 by the Franco-Prussian War. The attractively printed folding map shows Lambert's proposed course, as well as the tracks of Sherard Osborn and Augustus Petermann's expeditions.
