Lot 10
[BREWING] TIZARD, W. L. A Voice From The Mash-Tun; Being a Dissertation on the Recently-Discovered Principles of Saccharification of the Mash-Tun of the Common Brewery...
London: Sold by the Author, 1845. Publisher's red cloth, blind and gilt stamped, binder's label of Remnant & Edmonds, London. 7 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches (19.75 x 11 cm); vii, [1], 71, [1] pp. with a 16 pp. prospectus for the author's forthcoming book, the second edition of his Theory and Practice of Brewing, at rear. Cloth soiled and worn, front joint cracked, contents lightly soiled with occasional pale spots, overopened in a few places, nonetheless a sound copy.

W. L. Tizard produced this tract in order to advertise his newly patented brewing apparatus, "the mashing attemperator." His invention was designed to control the temperature of, and equally distribute heat to, the mash as it cooks during the first stage of beer brewing. Rare - only one copy has at auction since 2010 as per RBH, and Worldcat only lists 7 copies in institutional collections.
