BECKETT, SAMUEL and LOUIS LE BROCQUY (illustrator) Stirrings Still.
New York and London: Blue Moon Books/John Calder, [1988]. First edition, copy J of Z (i.e. 26) copies lettered by hand, signed by both Beckett and illustrator Louis Le Brocquy; this a presentation copy inscribed by Beckett "for/Tom & Helen/with love/from Sam/August 89." Publisher's parchment-backed linen boards stamped in gilt after a design by De Brocquy, slipcased as issued. 13 1/2 x 9 inches (35 x 23 cm); with one color lithograph and eight lithographs in black by Le Brocquy printed by Pierre Chave, all printed on fine paper with deckle edge. A near-fine copy, spine a trifle soiled.

This, Beckett's final work of fiction, was written for his friend Barney Rosset, his American publisher, and was issued on the author's 83rd birthday. It is rare in this lettered presentation issue. The recipients noted on the title are the noted New York University Beckett scholar--and close friend of the author--Tom Bishop and his wife Helen. Laid in is a copy of Comment Dire, a two-leaf Beckett desideratum (his last work) printed in 89 copies (plus 35 h.c.).
