Sèvres Porcelain Stylized Peacock Feather Ground Teapot and Cover and Sugar-Bowl and Cover (Théière Calabre et sa Couvercle; Sucrier Calabre et sa Couvercle)
Third quarter 18th century, blue interlaced L's mark, painter's mark ch for Chabry, potter's incised T
Each painted in the manner of Philips Wouwerman with equestrian hunt and falconry scenes within gilt ciselé surrounds, reserved on a turquoise and puce peacock feather ground. Height of teapot 6 1/4 inches (15.9 cm), height of sugar-bowl 4 inches (10.2 cm).

Étienne Jean Chabry, fils aîné, was recorded as painter at Sèvres active 1764-1787.

It is interesting to note that Bernadaud currently features this rare patterned ground as part of its Sèvres historic series.
