[FALKLAND ISLANDS] PERNETTY, ANTOINNE JOSEPH. Histoire d'un Voyage aux Isles Malouines, fait en 1763 & 1764...
Paris: Saillant & Nyon, 1770. Nouvelle Edition (i.e. second French). Two volumes, contemporary calf backed boards, marbled endpapers and edges. 8 x 5 inches (20 X 13 cm); 17 (of 18) folding plates and maps. Boards rubbed, joints split, booklabels.
Second edition of Journal historique d'un Voyage, first printed in 1769. Per Field: "At page 89, of Vol. II., the Abbe has made a division of his work, which he entitles 'Observations on the Straits of Magellan, and on the Patagonians.' This is the only part of the two volumes which entitles it to a place in our category of works on the aborigines, and is very meagre in its details. A large folding plate gives its testimony to the great stature of the gigantic inhabitants of Patagonia. It was translated into English, and printed in London in 1771, under the title of 'Bougainville's Voyage.'" Field 1200; Sabin 60996.
