[SAILING] SLOCUM. JOSHUA, Captain. Sailing Alone around the World.
New York: The Century Co., 1901. "Pan-American Edition" i.e. the second, prepared for the Pan-American Exposition, 1901; inscribed "yours truly/Joshua Slocum/The Spray Aug 26th 1901." According to a clipping mounted below Slocum's sloop was anchored on the shore of the Lake Erie, and "Capt. Slocum receives visitors all day," presumably where this book was inscribed. Publisher's pictorial cloth. 8 x 5 1/4 inches (20.5 x 13.5 cm); xvi, 294 pp. Light wear to binding, with minor loss to some of the design elements, clippings laid down to rear endpapers.
Slocum was the first mariner to sail single-handed around the world, in The Spray. He disappeared during another voyage in 1909.
