Rare Bronze Kundika
Kamakura Period, dated Shohei sannen (1348) and with a dedicatory inscription, Jinshen Butsu Shigeru Kakuso (Body of the Gold Buddha [honorific title], Shigeru Kakuso)
Ovoid, resting on a relatively deep, spreading foot with reeded edge, the vessel is divided into upper and lower hemispheres, themselves separated by reeded stringcourses and from which springs the slender, trumpet mouth. The spout is set at the base with a well-executed lotus-form collar. The originally gilding has mainly been worn away. Height 7 15/16 inches (20.2 cm).
