Two Taffeta Party Frocks
American, early 1920s
The first a sleeveless full-skirted chemise, finely shirred at bodice front and dropped waist, of fine mint green silk hand painted with a profusion of large spring blossoms, Alencon style lace collar and hem trim, yellow changeante silk attached slip, size 10, labeled: Farquharson & Wheelock/23 West 57th St./New York/Paris-London, the second a panier dress of changeante aqua and floral chine silk with lace sleeves and petticoat hem, fabric rose sewn to petticoat, size 12.
The first fragile condition, tears and discoloration at armscyes, areas of painted silk cracking, the second fragile, silk splitting, some unfinished alterations at hem.
