Mrs. C. Donovan Polonaise Fancy Dress
1910s
The Dolly Varden style two-piece dress of silk printed with large pink and yellow roses, engageante style lace sleeves, underskirt of bright yellow satin trimmed with wired self bows, labeled: Mrs. C. Donovan Co./29 East 55th Street/New York; Together with a Lavender Taffeta Party Dress. Two piece, comprising a long silk dress with ribbon work flowers at bodice and lace overjacket.
The first very good condition, minor discolorations, the second good condition, basting stitches on skirt.
Mrs. C. Donovan was one of New York's most important dressmakers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. See Caroline Rennolds Milbank, New York Fashion, pp.29, 32, 41.
