. Palermo: F. Lao, 1859. Two volumes, three-quarters calf, orange cloth sides. 29 1/2 inches (75 cm); the first volume contains the textual apparatus with [12], 224, [2] pp; the second volume contains 90 plates, as called for. 64 of these are chromolithography (in gold and colors) of the highest quality, by Frauenfelder of Palermo, along with 21 wood engraved plates, 1 plate in plain lithography, and 4 plates with multiple mounted photographic images. Minor wear to binding, but overall an extremely clean and fresh copy of this rare example of virtuosic Italian color lithography.
The color plates are quite exceptional, many showing the extraordinary mosaics of the Cathedral, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
