[MANUSCRIPT] Illuminated leaf on vellum extracted from a Bible. Likely Bologna: last quarter of the thirteenth century. 6 1/...
. Likely Bologna: last quarter of the thirteenth century. 6 1/8 x 4 1/4 inches (15.5 x 11.8 cm); written in dark brown ink in a minuscule gothic rotunda script in a double column of 56 lines. The recto bears the beginning of the Book of Jonah, with a fine historiated initial "E" with Jonah within the mouth of the whale. The verso has an exquisite small letter U with a floral design. Initials with contrasting marginal pen flourishes run within the central column. A fine example.
