LEE, RICHARD HENRY Autograph letter granting land warrants to three Virginia Revolutionary War veterans. New York: 30 May 17...
. New York: 30 May 1789. One page autograph letter signed "Richard Henry Lee" on one sheet of folded paper, with integral blank, addressed to Major Alexander, Surveyor of Military Lands. 8 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches (22.5 x 19 cm). Usual folds, a very clean letter, puncture to integral blank where opened.
This letter, written by Lee while president of the congress, provides warrants (not present) to Captain Lawrence Butler, Captain Reuben Briscoe and Lieutenant Thomas Hungerford for their service in the Continental Army. The letter was sent to Major William Alexander, Surveyor of Military Lands, and the men were likely granted western lands in the Northwest Territory.
