. London: Geo[rge] Harlow, 1783. First edition. Modern black half morocco, cloth sides. 7 5/8 x 4 3/4 inches (9.5 x 11.5 cm); [2], 145, [1] pp. Slightly toned, generally a clean copy.
This is a rather rare account of the trial of Gordon for misconduct (specifically cowardice) during the Battle of Springfield, 1780. The court-martial (which Gordon had requested) was in June of 1780. He pleaded not guilty, and was indeed acquitted. This is a fascinating account for the minutiae of detail regarding the movements of his company during the battle, and for the insight into British military practice and discipline that it provides. ESTC T117171; Sabin, 27972.
