Lot Details
Lot 510
... Paris: Édition de la Guirlande, 1921. One of 250 (of 275 copies total) on Vergé D'Arches, this numbered 273. Three-quarters period French tan morocco (binding unsigned), marbled sides and endsheets, top edge gilt. 10 7/8 x 7 3/8 (27.5 x 18.5 cm), unpaginated, with superb illustrations after Brunelleschi (twelve etched full-page plates, and 93 vignettes), all illustrations colored in pochoir at the atelier of J. Saudé. Binding a trifle sunned, light wear, minor foxing to the extreme fore-edge, overall a very pretty copy of a very scarce work indeed.
This witty romance has magnificent plates by Umberto Brunelleschi, one of the foremost of Art Deco illustrators, and the coloring was done by the redoubtable firm of Saudé, with the colophon signed (in pochoir) by the colorist.
